Grilling and Chillin Kentucky Style- July Our Local Box Review

Our Local Box is just one of those boxes that I really really look forward to receiving each month. This month I was particularly anxious to receive Our Local Box because I had seen no spoilers at all before I got my box. So it was a complete surprise, which I love. And it was a great surprise, full of wonderful products.

What is Our Local Box?
Our Local Box is a fantastic box that focused on sending out, right to your doorstep, great hand-selected assortment of goodies coming straight from Kentucky. Our Local Box costs $30.00 per month, which is well worth it. Each box is guaranteed to include only full size, one of the kind items made by great unique companies in Kentucky

July Our Local Box

For July Our Local Box  added a little something in the box for everyone.  It was a melting pot of Kentucky- Made products for all!

Earth Goddess Candles Pear & White Tea Soy Candle-$5.50

Okay I love candles. However,  I love candles even better when they smell like this one from Earth Goddess Candles. This is one amazing smelling candle. It really was a perfect smell of white tea with pear. This candle is definitely one of my favorites out of all candles, and a favorite in this month's box, (even though it is hard to pick a favorite since the whole box is great).

Sassa Bella Body Care Lemongrass Spearmint Bar Soap-$6

Love good smelling pretty soap to keep in the bathroom for all to enjoy. This soap not only smells good, but it is also good for the skin, and refreshing as well. Lemongrass is said to be refreshing, and spearmint promotes a  sense of balance and well-being. A great soap to start the morning out right!

The Ladybirds, Shimmy Shimmy Dang! CD- $10

I was super impressed to get a CD in this month’s box. I have never received a CD in any box ever, so I was excited. And equally excited to listen to the music. I love music, so I was sure that I would like it.  The Ladybirds has a flavor of rockabilly, doo wop and has a retro vibe to it. I really liked their music. It is really great to be introduced to new things, especially music! Great addition to Our Local Box this month!

Bourbonq Bear Claw Honey Butt Spice- $4

We are big on grilling at our house, and have been grilling up a storm these last past couple months, so this spice mix came at just the right time. I tasted a little bit of this spice mix and it was tasty.  Not too spicy, so everyone in the family will be able to eat it.  This will also be good on some grilled veggies . As the label says “ You’ll Put This on Anything “Butt” Your Honey.” Haha . Mmmm Getting Hungry now.

Bourbonq Pappy’s XXX White Lightin’ BBQ Sauce-$7

This delicious BBQ sauce is made with 3% Kentucky Bourbon, fresh garlic, fresh onion, Worcestershire and kicks off with a bang (habanero pepper). That is definitely what I call a kick. If you have never had habanero, well you are in for a HOT surprise. Yes, it is very hot. I am looking forward to using this BBQ sauce for when my parents come over, they LOVE hot ANYTHING.

TICKLED PINK OPINION:   Again Our Local Box came out with a BOOM this month. The July Our Local Box was a hit with me.  I think it was especially great that Our Local Box featured items from all spectrums; all the way from grilling to chilling. All the items, while different, also worked so well together and had a great summer vibe to them.  Overall July Our Local Box included a total of $ 32.50 worth of Kentucky-made products. There is no way I could go online right now and get homemade, unique, and authentic Kentucky products like this for under $32.50, as well as have it delivered right to my doorstep. Each month I am blown away by Our Local Box, and now I already cannot wait to see August’s box.

If you would like to see past month’s Our Local Box you can see HERE or HERE.  And if you would like to sign up for Our Local Box or learn more you can HERE.

Are you ready to take a little adventure to Kentucky? Well Our Local Box awaits!

Until next time

Kentucky or Bust- Our Local Box Un-boxed

When I heard that Our Local Box was teaming up with a chef for their June box I was stoked. I always really enjoy collaborated boxes, especially when they are teamed up with a chef. I am a foodie at heart, and only can dream of being a top chef.

This month Our Local Box teamed up with Kentucky chef Edward Lee, a chef in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as author of a new book, Smoke & Pickles.  (Southern Food, yummy)

If you have never heard of Our Local Box, well then you are missing out. Our Local Box is a monthly subscription dedicated to curating a completely awesome box full of unique,  purely and solely Kentucky items. Now we are not taking about any ol’ Kentucky items, these picks from Our Local Box are top notch, locally grown or made Kentucky products. Our Local Box is bringing Kentucky to you in a box. Such an awesome concept. Too bad each state didn’t have their own box.  If you want more information on Our Local Box, check out my post from last month HERE

Now on to the good and yummy stuff from Our Local Box

JUNE’S OUR LOCAL BOX

This month’s box included all the items that you need to make a featured recipe from Chef Edward Lee, Braised Beef Kalbi with Soft Grits and Scallions. Yummy! Are you hungry yet? I will be making this recipe soon, and will feature it on my blog, just trying to find the time (haha), so stay tuned.

ORGANIC HEIRLOOM HICKORY KING CORN GRITS from SUNFLOWER SUNDRIES- $5

Okay I have to admit I am a little scared to make grits. I have had them when I was in North Carolina, but I heard they are difficult to make.  I will most definitely be trying my hand at making some grits soon though, as these sound like some top notch grits.  These Sunflower Sundries Grits are non-GMO, 100% chemical free, and come from a family –run business that cares about their community and making great organic products !

BLUEGRASS SOY SAUCE from BLUEGRASS SOY SAUCE COMPANY $6

In my household soy sauce is like ketchup, we always have it around. I was ecstatic to find a recipe in Our Local Box that included some Asian flair. My fiancé’ also loves soy sauce, so he was very excited to try this Bluegrass Soy Sauce as well. This soy sauce is homegrown in Kentucky, and is aged in repurposed bourbon barrels  that  infuse the soy sauce with hints of oak and mild sweetness of Kentucky bourbon. Let me tell you, this soy sauce probably will not last long in this household.  Delish.

PURE CANE SWEER SORGHUM from BOURBON BARREL FOODS $12

Umm, what is Sorghum? This is the first thing I said when I looked over June’s Our Local Box.  Sorghum is an earthy syrup with subtle notes of exotic spices, and can be used in place of molasses, corn syrup, honey or maple syrup. This is the maple syrup of Kentucky they say. I cannot wait to give this a try in Edward Lee’s short rib recipe and some cheese. Sounds very savory!

BOURBON SMOKED PEPPER from BOURBON BARREL FOODS $9

I just love pepper, so I was very excited to see that not only was this included in Our Local Box this month, but the recipe included in Our Local Box calls for this lovely smelling smoked pepper.  This pepper is not any ol’ pepper, but this pepper has been slowly smoked with aged bourbon barrels, which leaves the pepper having an oaky flavor. Again, this is going to be a great addition to many dishes at my house, as I am a big fan of pepper.  Great addition to the box.

Tickled Pink Opinion: Overall, I am so very impressed by both this month’s Our Local Box and last month’s box.  Each box has been curated expertly with such fantastic elements that help emphasis great products and people in Kentucky.  Again, like I said in my last review, Our Local Box makes me really want to pack my bags an experience more of what Kentucky has to offer. A Road Trip and a reservation at Edward Lee’s restaurant please.

I cannot rave enough about how great of an impression Our Local Box is making, and I am eager to see more boxes in months to come from Our Local Box. This is one box you do not want to miss out on. Additionally, at only $30 per month, the quality of products far exceed what you pay each month. If you are interested in signing up for Our Local Box or learning more about Our Local Box you can visit their website HERE.

A trip to Kentucky via Our Local Box in your near future?

Until next time
Stay Tickled Pink,

Stephanie

A little taste of Kentucky, Our Local Box Review

I have never been to Kentucky, but that does not mean I cannot experience some of what the state has to offer thanks to Our Local Box. Our Local Box is a fantastic box that focused on sending out great hand-selected assortment of goodies coming straight from Kentucky.

For the month of May, Our Local Box themed it’s box around the Derby. Evidently , people go pretty bananas two weeks leading up to this big event. Here is what Our Local Box included in their phenomenal May box.

BANANA PUDDING FUDGE  from Cellar Door Chocolates

The name speaks the truth, this banana pudding fudge looks like banana pudding with vanilla wafers in between.   Cellar Door Chocolate has taken this common southern treat and has turned it into fudge. And, YUMMY,  let me tell you this treat is DELICIOUS.  No words can actually say how yummy this treat it.  It was hard to just take a little nibble. Cellar Door Chocolates, also looks to have other yummy treats on their website as well. Check them out HERE.

CHERRY ROSE GREEN TEA from Elmwood Inn

This is by far the best tea that I have tried. This is a blend of Japanese sencha green tea, rose petals and cherries. Elmwood  Inn has perfected green tea, what an excellent mix of flavors! Not only did I like it, but so did my other half, so I anticipate it will be gone pretty fast, as we both really like Green Tea.

CARNELIAN ORANGE AND HONEY LIP BAL By Rituals by Nature

I cannot do this Lip Balm justice by just writing my own blub about it, so I went straight to the Our Local Box to give you the background on this excellent lip balm.

“This original formula is hand-tinted using natural oxides and is comprised of organic, unbleached beeswax, olive oil, cocoa butter, essentials oils, vitamin E, honey and dragon's blood.  The lovely aroma of cocoa butter and orange with a sweet kiss of pure organic honey.” – Our Local Box

It is by the best lip balm I have received lately. The only thing I wondered when reading about this lip balm was, what is Dragon’s Blood.? I was thinking of the magical creature in fairy tales and kids stories, but I was wrong. This is what Dragon’s Blood is:

“Dragon's Blood is viscous and blood-red, it is the pure exuded sap of a tropical tree rather than the blood of a mythical creature.”

MAGICK SKIN BALM WITH DRAGON’S BLOOD by Rituals by Nature

This Skin Balm goes a long way, however, it was great on my dry skin and will be perfect for the summer.  This Skim Blam is said that this is good on dry skin, scrapes, tattoos, and rough feet. Magick Skin Balm is made with olive oil, organic beeswax, cocoa butter, lavender oil, vitamin E and dragon's blood. I must say Rituals by Nature has some great products, and I feel so very lucky to have been given the opportunity to try the lip balm and skin balm out, as these great items comes all the way from Kentucky.

Pocketbook: Our Local Box costs $30.00 per month, which is well worth it. Each box is guaranteed to include only full size, one of the kind items made by great unique companies in Kentucky. This box was well worth $30, as all the products far exceeded the $30 cost. Also, how can you put a price on such unique one of the kind products.

Tickled Pink Opinion: Overall, I very impressed by Our Local Box. Never would I have thought I would get a taste of Kentucky mailed directly to my door, but I was wrong. Additionally, the quality of products is top of the line, and  each item is full size.  And best of all, , each item is handpicked and made by one-of-the-kind local Kentucky businesses,  highlighting what Kentucky is all about. So, if you are like me, and you do not anticipate a trip any where any time soon, nor to Kentucky, than this is the box for you. And even if you are a travel nut, than you still do not want to pass up Our Local Box!

What do you think of Our Local Box? If you would are wanting a little taste of Kentucky or you are the adventurous, fun, want to receive an awesome box straight from the heart of Kentucky, then you can do so HERE, and let them know I sent you.

Until next time
Stay Tickled Pink,
Stephanie
